Payment Methods
Last updated:
Paying for a gift should be the easy part. This page explains how checkout works at Yay Bestie, which currency you pay in, how your payment details are protected, what to do if a payment does not go through, and how money comes back to you when a refund is due. The exact payment options available for your order are always shown on the checkout page before you confirm, so what you see there is the authoritative list. If you have a question that is not answered here, email support@yaybestie.com.
Paying at a glance
- Where to see your options: on the checkout page, after you enter your address and before you confirm.
- Currency: every price and every charge is in US dollars.
- Shipping: free to the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, shown as $0.00 at checkout.
- Sales tax: we do not add sales tax at checkout; the total you confirm is the total we charge.
- Security: payment details go directly to the payment provider over an encrypted connection; we never see or store your full card number.
- Refunds: always to the method you paid with, within 7 days of approval.
1. How checkout works, step by step
- Add your personalized items to the cart and check the personalization one last time.
- Go to checkout and enter your email, billing details and the shipping address. If the gift is going straight to someone else, use their name and address for shipping.
- Checkout confirms the free shipping method for your country and shows your order total in US dollars.
- Choose one of the payment options listed and follow its steps. Some options open a secure window from the payment provider where you sign in or confirm the payment.
- When the payment is authorized, you see an order confirmation page and receive a confirmation email with your order number.
Your order is not placed until you reach the confirmation page. If you close the window before then, nothing is charged and nothing is made.
2. Which payment options are available
We only list payment options at checkout that are fully set up and working for our store. That list can change as we add new options, so rather than repeat it here and risk it going out of date, we show it in one place: the checkout page itself. When we add or remove an option, checkout updates immediately. If you need to know whether a particular method is available before you start, email us and we will tell you what checkout currently offers.
We do not accept payment by bank transfer to a personal account, by gift card from another company, by cryptocurrency, or by sending card details over email or chat. If anyone claiming to be Yay Bestie ever asks you to pay that way, please do not pay, and forward the message to support@yaybestie.com.
3. Currency and international cards
All prices are set and charged in US dollars, including for orders shipping to Canada, Australia and New Zealand. If your card or account uses another currency, your bank or payment provider converts the amount at its own exchange rate on the day of the charge. Some banks add a foreign transaction fee for purchases in a foreign currency. Those fees and rates are set by your bank under your account terms, not by us, so we cannot see or refund them. If you are unsure, your bank can tell you whether a fee applies before you buy.
A quick example: a $24.00 mug shipped to Toronto is charged as $24.00 USD. Your Canadian statement shows the converted amount in Canadian dollars, which depends on that day’s rate and any fee your bank applies.
4. What you pay, and what you do not
| Part of the total | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Item price | Shown on the product page, including the price of any size or option you choose |
| Personalization | Included in the item price; there is no separate personalization fee |
| Shipping | Free to the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand: $0.00 |
| Sales tax | Not added at checkout |
| Import duties and taxes (Canada, Australia, New Zealand) | Not included; charged by the destination country on arrival if applicable, and paid by the recipient |
| Currency conversion or foreign transaction fees | Not charged by us; may be charged by your bank if your account is not in US dollars |
5. Keeping your payment details safe
The entire Yay Bestie website runs over HTTPS, the padlock you see in your browser’s address bar, so the information you type is encrypted between your device and our site. When you pay, your card or account details go directly to the payment provider that processes the transaction. We receive a confirmation that the payment succeeded, the amount and limited reference details such as the last digits of a card, but never your full card number or security code, and we do not store them.
Payment providers may ask you to complete an extra check, such as a one-time code from your bank or a confirmation in your banking app. That step comes from your bank or provider, not from us, and it helps stop someone else using your card. A simple habit that helps: always start checkout from yaybestie.com itself, check that the address bar shows our domain before you enter any details, and ignore emails or messages that send you to a different-looking payment page. For more about how we handle personal information, see our Privacy Policy.
6. When a payment does not go through
A declined payment can be frustrating, especially with a birthday coming up. The most common reasons, and what to try:
- Billing details do not match: check that the billing address and ZIP or postal code match the ones your bank has on file. This is different from the gift’s shipping address.
- The bank flagged a foreign purchase: buyers in Canada, Australia and New Zealand are paying a US business in US dollars, which some banks block by default. Approve the purchase in your banking app or call your bank, then try again.
- A verification step timed out: if a pop-up or banking app confirmation was not completed in time, start checkout again.
- Daily or online spending limits: your bank may limit online or overseas spending; it can raise or confirm the limit for you.
- Browser hiccups: ad blockers and privacy extensions sometimes stop the payment window loading. Try a private window or another browser.
If the payment still fails, email us with the time you tried and any message you saw. We cannot see your card details, but we can see whether an attempt reached us and tell you whether anything is left to do on our side. A declined attempt does not create an order, so nothing will be made or shipped.
7. Pending charges and duplicates
Sometimes a failed attempt leaves a “pending” amount on your statement. That is an authorization hold placed by your bank, not a completed charge. When the payment did not go through, the hold is released automatically, usually within a few business days, though the timing depends on your bank. If you see two charges for one order, check your email for two order confirmations. If you only have one confirmation, the second line is almost certainly a hold that will drop off. If you have two confirmations and only wanted one order, tell us and we will cancel the duplicate in full, as explained on Cancel or Change an Order.
8. Paying a price difference
If you change an order to a more expensive option within the 24-hour change window, for example from a 4 inch to a 6 inch ornament, we email you a secure request to pay the difference, and the change goes ahead once it is paid. We will never ask you to reply with card details by email. If the new option costs less, the difference is refunded to your original payment method within 7 days.
9. Paying for a gift that ships somewhere else
Paying for a gift that goes to another address is completely normal and does not need any special step. Enter your own billing details, the ones your bank knows, in the billing section, and the recipient’s name and address in the shipping section. Your payment is checked against your billing details, not the gift address, so a different shipping country is fine as long as it is one of the four we deliver to. The recipient does not see the price: packing slips leave it off, and the payment confirmation only goes to your email.
If you are paying with someone else’s card, for example a partner’s, they need to be happy for you to use it, and the billing details must be theirs. Refunds always return to that card.
10. Team gifts and larger orders
Ordering eight mugs for the office or a set of ornaments for a family reunion? You can pay for everything in a single order: each item keeps its own personalization, and the total is charged once. If several people are chipping in, it is usually easiest for one person to place and pay for the order and collect contributions separately, because we can only charge one payment method per order. For very large orders, email us before you check out so we can confirm production timing; the payment process is the same.
11. Receipts and order records
Your order confirmation email is your receipt. It lists each item, the personalization, the price, the free shipping line and the total charged. If you have an account, your order history is also available under My account. Need a receipt for an office gift or a team order? The confirmation email works for most expense systems; if you need the billing name or address changed on it, email us and we will help.
12. Refunds back to your payment method
When a refund is approved, whether for a cancellation, a return, a damaged item or a lost parcel, we send it back to the same payment method you used, in US dollars, within 7 days. We cannot redirect a refund to another card or account. Most refunds show on statements within a few business days, though some banks take longer. The full details are in our Refund Policy.
13. Preventing fraud
To protect customers, we and our payment provider look out for signs of fraud, such as many attempts with different cards or an order that does not match the cardholder’s details. Very occasionally we may contact you to confirm an order before we make it, or cancel and fully refund an order we believe is fraudulent. If you think your card was used on our site without your permission, contact your bank and email us straight away with the order number or the amount and date of the charge.
14. Questions about paying
Email support@yaybestie.com or use the Submit Ticket page, and we will reply within one business day. You might also find what you need in our FAQs or our Terms of Service, which explain how orders and payments work in more detail.
